Pennsylvania’s Harrisburg University of Science and Technology will be banning social media from students for 1 week, to allow them to realize how becoming disconnected from social media effects their daily lives. Per Mashable, the students will be forbidden from using Twitter, Facebook, instant messaging and any other online communication except for e-mail. (more…)

I wanted to give a shout-out to Donatos Pizza for a cool, yet simple, Twitter promotion that they ran today to increase their community.
Here is the Tweet they sent, notifying their current fan base of the promotion:
If you’re looking to increase awareness of your brand on Twitter, I suggest running a simple promotion such as this one that Donatos Pizza is running. It’s a simple strategy to encourage your followers to bring more traffic to your account, while offering them a potential reward in return.
Here are some examples of people that participated in the contest. Will they share their pizza with you?
Thank you Jason for sharing your pizza with @BrianGainor and I! Since you mentioned him in your pizza party, I forgot to mention the husband in mine…
If I win a pizza, I look forward to sharing it with these 6! Plus, @BrianGainor of course.
What do you think of the promotion? How would you expand upon it?

Today I had the opportunity to be the inaugural keynote speaker for Full Sail University‘s Student Branding Society. Full Sail course director, Robert Croll and Ryan Mickley, who had the vision to create this group, have done a great job with creating an inspirational group for those seeking ideas on expanding their network and personal brand.
I was honored for this opportunity to complete the “Laura Gainor Utilizing Social Media” story by bringing together the timeline of events of how I was hired at Comet Branding + PR.
I walked through my presentation, showcasing the various events that occurred in such a short time to bring me to Comet Branding, and left the group with tips on how they can start creating their personal brand through social media. This is a topic I’m very passionate about and hope I can make an impact on those job seekers to help them find their dream job.
If you have additional questions and ideas on personal branding, please feel free to leave them in the comments field or contact me directly.
