When I talk to people that have questions on developing their personal brand, one of the big questions they have is what social media platform they should start with.
Once you establish the social media platform you want to use most, you should also be asking yourself how each platform should be used to properly represent yourself.
Today a website launched that gives you the opportunity to acknowledge a friend, co-worker or just anyone you feel is worthy of a 140 character shout-out: Shoutworthy. (more…)
As you may have noticed, Facebook recently redesigned the look of their event pages. The design looks great and ties into their updated scheme, but I think they are missing out on adding some great new functionalities to the pages.
The redesign got me thinking about how it would be valuable to have the capability to send video messages on Facebook, and particularly on the event pages. Currently you can upload videos or record directly on Facebook, but they are missing out on a huge piece with not having real-time options to be social through videos.
My request to Facebook is to add a video messaging feature within the platform, such as Tokbox, so you can send a personal video message to friends in real-time privately, or have the option to bring more life to event pages. Businesses would have an opportunity to bring more social aspects to event pages, giving fans a reason to re-visit the event pages instead of just one time to RSVP.
Tokbox has many features that would be useful on Facebook, such as sending private messages to your friends, record video messages to publicly promote on Facebook, Twitter or embed directly on your blog. It would be great to have private video functionalities in Facebook so you didn’t need to utilize other platforms. I guess privacy is the big question here though with Facebook.
Would you like to see more social opportunities with Facebook’s event pages? Would you use a video messaging feature to send messages to your friends or fans? What is your request to Facebook?
Today I had the opportunity to be the inaugural keynote speaker for Full Sail University‘s Student Branding Society. Full Sail course director, Robert Croll and Ryan Mickley, who had the vision to create this group, have done a great job with creating an inspirational group for those seeking ideas on expanding their network and personal brand.
I walked through my presentation, showcasing the various events that occurred in such a short time to bring me to Comet Branding, and left the group with tips on how they can start creating their personal brand through social media. This is a topic I’m very passionate about and hope I can make an impact on those job seekers to help them find their dream job.
I was recently inspired by David Garland from a recent blog post from The Rise To The Top titled “Why Doing Business Now Is Like Being on Camera 24/7,” because he talks about social media giving everyone their own “voice.” This is one of the main points of social media that has always excited me. You can quickly reach a large audience with all of the various platforms that are currently available to everyone, such as blogging, Twitter, Facebook, Foursquare and so on. This gives you the opportunity to allow your followers to get to know you on a more personal level. 10 years ago you wouldn’t have been able to instantly network with various professionals as you are now with the tools available to you.
I will be periodically publishing unedited videos on topics I enjoy in social media, new discoveries we’re playing around with at Comet Branding and various tips I continue to learn along the way. I hope you all enjoy getting to know me more on a personal level and I look forward to continuing to talk with people on all cool things social media.
Videos are a great way for everyone to start personalizing their own video profiles to build up your personal branding “voice.” 5 Tips to get you started on spreading your message are:
2. Utilize these platforms to promote content on your blog, LinkedIn profile, Facebook and promote through Twitter.
3. Talk with your connections. Use the video content as a way to move beyond the “140-character” message and let people truly get to know what is on your mind.
4. Listen. What kind of feedback are you getting and what do people want to know more about you or the topics you’re discussing?
5. Have fun with it. We’re in a world where everyone truly has a “voice” and it’s what you make of it.
Today I had the opportunity to present to the GMR Networking Group in Charlotte, NC about how I used social media to land my job at Comet Branding. I wish I could say I was back in the Queen City to present in person, but it was great to connect with a great group of people remotely. (more…)
