As we begin Thanksgiving week, we have a lot to be thankful for: a healthy family, a warm house to come home to, and amazing family and friends to rely on. We also have our typical challenges as a family: trying to get our kids out the door so that we can get to work at a decent time, working hard to save money so that we can provide for the family, and experience days that feel like we were tackled to the floor by two toddlers.
But, when it comes down to it, we are extremely fortunate. That is why Brian and I want to be an example for Clara and Garrett to show them that no matter how bad of a day you are having, take a minute to think about those you can help and those you can give thanks to.
So, #CGPayItForward was created as a way to teach our kids about how they can help others, either with a small donation or helping them in a small way. Since starting #CGPayItForward four weeks ago, it has been heartwarming to see both of them excited about giving back and hope that one day they realize the meaning of how they’re helping others.
Each week we share a picture of Clara and Garrett for #CGPayItForward. Below are the first causes they have helped.
(Week 1) While we were getting groceries, we said “yes, please” in the checkout to donate to Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin (@FeedAmericaWI). Just $1 brings 5 meals to those in need.
(Week 2) Children’s Miracle Network (@CMNHospitals) has been one of our favorite charities, as it breaks our hearts to see such beautiful children in the hospital. They make amazing miracles for these wonderful children, happen.
(Week 3) Road trips are always an adventure for us while keeping two toddlers, and a dog, entertained and safe on the road. While traveling to Minnesota to visit family, Clara and Garrett enjoyed seeing snow on the ground during a gas fill-up at Kwik Trip and donated to Special Olympics (@SpecialOlympics) for #FreezinForAReason.
(Week 4) Brian and I have a special place in our hearts for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the Charlotte Guys & Dolls charity auction. Back in 2008, Brian “purchased” me as a bachelorette in the auction, and well, you know the rest of the story.
In loving memory of our great friend, Sabrina Watt, who made a huge impact in trying to find a cure for those living with CF, Clara and Garrett donated to support Paige Rohleder as she is up for bid in 2015 for this wonderful cause!
From our family to yours, we hope you have a safe and wonderful Thanksgiving!
